Among the many reasons why actuaries have moved to R is the promise of enhanced visualizations of their data. The "ggplot2" package has emerged as one of the most popular R libraries which can generate compelling images.
But what's so special about ggplot2? What does "gg" even mean? Fear not. I'll answer that and a whole lot more. I've been using R and ggplot2 for years and find that it allows me to very quickly give me a feel for what's happening with my data. Moreover, it lets me generate publication quality graphics with a minimum of fuss.
In this webinar, you will learn how to:
- Use ggplot2 to build a visualization one element at a time
- Visualize time series, size of loss distributions and data by rating class
- Refine plotting techniques for large data sets
- Adopt strategies for grouped and categorical data
- Add statistical models to your visualizations
- Use themes to create a distinct and consistent look and feel
- Take a visualization from good to great
Who Should Attend This Webinar?
Actuaries at all levels of experience should get something out of this webinar. Although extensive familiarlity with R is neither expected nor required, attendees will benefit most if they have R and RStudio installed.
Instructor Brian A. Fannin, ACAS
Brian is the founder and captain of PirateGrunt LLC, an actuarial, data and predictive modelling consultancy. Brian has held a number of positions at both primary and excess insurance companies, both in the US and overseas. He is the chair of the CAS open source software committee, with a focus on R. His principle areas of research are in stochastic reserving, predictive modelling and visualization of data. He is the author of the MRMR, raw, rerprestools and Imaginator R packages.
